One of the most important aspects of cooking with marijuana is getting an accurate dosage of the THC content of your edibles. Jessica Catalano, famous cannabis chef and published author of “The Ganja Kitchen Revolution” says that it all starts with the quality of the marijuana you will be used.
While it can be difficult to get exact measurements without the proper equipment, the average strain will test at around 10%. Reggie and mids typically test slightly below the average of 10% and above average strains usually fall in the 15-20% category. Anything that is above 21% is considered to be extremely potent and should be used with caution.
A common rule of thumb is that 1 gram of cannabis has 1,000mg of dry weight, meaning that if a strain has a 15% THC content, it will have 150mg of THC (15% of 1,000mg = 150mg). Doing the math can be messy, so we have broken the process down into 3 easy to follow steps and created a calculator to do the work for you!
Entering the above information in our calculator will provide you with the approximate THC content of easy serving, measured in milligrams, based on the equation from above. Calculating the THC dosage per serving has never been easier!

At Nirvana Farms we recommend beginners to start off with a dose of 5-10mg of THC per serving to start. It’s important to note that the onset of eating marijuana is significantly different than that of smoking and typically takes around 45 minutes to an hour to feel the effects. Remember if you’re not in the mood to make them yourself, here’s where to buy edibles online!
